The power of quotes

I fall in love with words. Quotes, poetry, stories. They can hold so much meaning and their ability to inspire and comfort is incredible. I wanted to share 5 of my favourite quotes and what they mean to me.

Keep your face towards the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you.

This quote inspires me to look towards the light i.e focus on what is important, positive and uplifting. There is always sunshine to be found in the midst of darkness. Focusing on the negatives (which i will admit i sometimes do) just drags you further down a pit of misery, that you will find yourself unable to get out of. You may be unable to change your situation in the way you want to, but you can choose the way that you view it. It is difficult but once you have the ability to focus on the positive, no amount of negative events or circumstances in your life will be able to drag you down. Positivity truly is power.

So fill your heart with what’s important and be done with all the rest.

Its important to realize that a lot of the things that we care about, stress about, and give our time to, are truly unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Most of us know that anyway, yet still have trouble with letting these things go. Instead, give your energy to what matters the most to you- your passions, the people you love, the dreams you have. They matter the most. Dont waste time worrying about things like what others think of you, or anything that wont matter when you look back in a few years. Nothing has to affect you if you don’t let it.

If you want a rose, do not hide from the thorns.

Sometimes, the dreams we have are difficult to reach. In fact, often they are. And we let that stop us, and give up. But we shouldn’t. I’ve learned through experience that setbacks, problems, procrastination, and challenges are all part of the process. However, that doesn’t mean we should resent them- they are oppurtunties to grow and learn,  and make achieving that dream even more incredible once we reach it. If your ‘rose’ means enough to you, then you simply can’t abandon your path upon encountering a thorn (or various ones) along the way. Reaching it will be worth it, and if not, then at least you have had an experience along the way. Achievement will take dedication – unfortunately, there just aren’t any exceptions. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

Learn by doing.

Repeating this to myself can quiten that extremely loud screaming perfectionist inside my head. Too often we dont do things because we are afraid that they wont work out, but in truth you can only learn and become better at a certain thing, by attempting it. You truly never know until you try. Dont expect to do something perfectly the first time around(or even after a few times.) That takes time, and practise. There’s only so much planning you can do; just begin instead. Learn as you go along. So when you find yourself shying away from something new (or something that you have tried but havent perfected) remember this message.

Know that you can start late, look different, be uncertain, and still succeed.

It can be discouraging when there seems to be no one in the same situation as us, who we can look up to. It can seem like we have no chance to be successful because we we dont have connections, we don’t have enough money, we didnt start young, we arent beautiful enough, and it can go on and on. While yes, you may not currently have those things- you do have motivation and determination. Those two things can get you anywhere. You have to believe that because if you do, then anything becomes possible. You can become that person that people look up to and think ” Despite everything she did it. Because of her I believe I can too.”

So there you have it! I hope you have found some inspiration in these few of my favourite quotes.
